Two surrogate markers are used to monitor people with HIV: plasma HIV RNA (viral load) to assess level of HIV viremia and CD4 T lymphocyte cell count to assess immune function.

HAEMATOLOGY

Haematology is the specialty responsible for the diagnosis and management of a wide range of benign and malignant disorders of the red and white blood cells, platelets and the coagulation system in adults and children. Haematologists care directly for patients on hospital wards and out patient clinics.

CHEMICAL PATHOLOGY

Chemical pathology (also known as clinical biochemistry) involves the biochemical investigation of bodily fluids such as blood, urine and cerebrospinal fluid. By discovering how and where the body's chemistry has changed, diseases can be diagnosed and monitored.

COVID TEST

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

PATERNITY (DNA) TESTING (Father and child or siblings)

DNA paternity testing determines the biological father of a child. We all inherit our DNA from our biological parents — half from our mother and half from our father. A DNA paternity test compares a child’s DNA pattern with that of the alleged father to determine if there is a match.
